Charles Stone is a San Mateo County native. Charles attended UC San Diego (’97) and Santa Clara University School of Law (’02.) He began his career as a litigator with the well-respected Redwood City, CA firm of Roger, Scott & Helmer and currently works with the Law Offices of Katherine R. Moore, PC in Redwood City, CA. He is experienced assisting clients with all phases of civil litigation.
After moving his family from San Mateo to Belmont in 2004, Charles became active as a volunteer in the public school community and youth sports. In 2010, Charles began volunteering with the Belmont-Redwood Shores School District Education Foundation (School-Force!). In 2012, he was appointed to the School-Force! Board of Directors as Endowment Chair and helped lead an effort that resulted in new fundraising records. Charles has served as a coach of the Carlmont Mock Trial Club since 2018.
In 2013, Charles was elected to the Belmont City Council and was reelected in 2018. He has served twice as mayor (2017, 2021.) He was reelected to the council in November of 2018. Charles was appointed to the San Mateo County Transit District (“SamTrans”) Board of Directors in December, 2014 and has served twice as Board Chair. He also serves on the Caltrain Joint Powers Board and is currently the Vice-Chair. In addition to his county transit role, Charles also serves on the San Mateo County Library JPA (Chair 2019-2021) He is a former member of Governing Boards of the South Bay Waste Management Agency (“ReThink Waste”) and Peninsula Clean Energy.
